WE DON’T NEED THE KEY, WE’LL BREAK IT!!!

Good looks to the homie Beewirks for the reminder. The first Rage Against the Machine album is one of the best albums ever.

Game Rebellion – Blind

I never even heard of Game Rebellion until the homie Dallas Penn put me on a couple days ago. From the video, it looks like the mighty Mos Def is cosigning these dudes too. Seeing as how Blakroc is in full effect right now, let’s see if any more music is birthed out from this wave of genre collaboration. 2010 might be that year of sonic exploration where musical boundaries will be creatively pushed.

Come to find out though, this song goes hard. Mosh pit status. They kind of remind of me Rage Against The Machine. Sounds Like A Riot EP is out now.

“Corinne and I met just as I was formulating the idea. She told me she was fan of my work, said she thought it was very real looking, cinematic and quite dark and that’s what she wanted for her video, nothing too sunny she said. I looked at her other videos and realised just how sunny they were and why she wanted to do something different for this song but on the day we filmed it was such a lovely sunny day – I told Corinne the sun just seems to follow her around, but it’s okay because in sad moments the sun can underline sadness just as easily as rain.”

After watching this video and hearing Corrinne Bailey Rae’s voice on the track, there’s only one thing you can really say about this shit right here: CRACK!

I can’t explain it any better than this (For more information: http://amnesty.org.uk/udhr):

International human rights day (December 10th) marks the anniversary of the United Nation’s historic ”Universal Declaration Of Human Rights” on 10 December 1948. The UDHR set out for the first time in a single document the fundamental rights to which everyone, everywhere is entitled – including the right to life, liberty, security, the freedoms of opinion, association and expression, and the right not to be subjected to torture or cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment.

Lupe Fiasco is one of the only rappers pushing the boundaries with music, which undoubtedly crosses over different genres. He takes on a bit of the alternative approach with this one, but the great thing about it is it’s featured on The Twilight Saga: New Moon soundtrack. The only rapper to make the cut.

That should tell you something right there.

Smashing Pumpkins – A Song For A Son

Are you ready for this one? The Smashing Pumpkins are set to release a series of 44 songs over the next couple months in the form of 11, 4 song EP’s through their website (WHOA!). This is the first song released from the forthcoming Teargarden by Kaleidyscope project, which from what Billy Corgan says, was written in an acoustic rate of 15 minutes. Take that John Mayer… Viva 90’s rock.

Song lifted from Spinner.

John Mayer – Edge Of Desire

This ninja is a beast on the guitar. “Edge Of Desire” was recorded in one take just recently — as liberated on his blog. I’m curious to see what else he cooks up with these acoustic sessions.

I’ve been thinking of a way to say thank you for making Battle Studies such a huge success out of the gate… I’ve also been thinking of a way to use tumblr as a means of posting some more substantial stuff… So here’s a very raw, live solo version of “Edge of Desire” I just recorded in my apartment as a way to show my gratitude to you all for extending my time in this amazing career you’ve helped me build.

I think if you were kind enough to spent the 13 bucks, you should get some free music for the next good while.

So here it is. A song about late night longing recorded at 3am. iPhone dinging in the background and all…(that’s how I knew the take was going to be worth sticking with, as the best takes always get interrupted.)

Thank you.

More to come…

-John Mayer

Truth be told, Battle Studies is a pretty good album. I overplayed the shit out of Continuum though so I might be a little biased towards that record as opposed to the new one.

The only reason I know of Chromeo is because one of the old homies I grew up with since 8th grade would always try to put me on to them. I showed this guy his first taste of hip-hop (see: Reflection Eternal) back in 2001 and most recently — the ways of the internet(s) and blogs in 2009. Of course with me being in a different world at all times, I never really checked them out like that. The new Chromeo album drops 2010.

Rewind: Pink Floyd, Animals

I was watching a clip of Curren$y where he talks about rap as compared to The Doors, and it got me to thinking — he’s right. When was the last time you heard an 11 minute song? The last time I did, must have been on Pink Floyd’s I Wish You Here album. “Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V)” is epic. The length of that song clocks in at an absurd 13:40. It takes about 8 minutes and 47 seconds for any type of singing to commence. That’s roughly the length of 2 rap songs and a freestyle (whoa, that was too much reading!).

Call me crazy but to me, Continue reading

Beach House – Silver Soul

I remember when the homie Timm put me on to this band about a year back. He sent me “Gila” off their Devotion album. Their whole sound was psychedelic and I couldn’t wait to hear more while the leaf burned slow. I was even more amazed after I watched them randomly perform it live in a basement.

Fast forward a whole year, where out-of-nowhere they dropped their new single “Norway” — I was instantly hooked right in. Fortunately for the fans, this is something to hold you over until Teen Dream drops. If you pay attention to the end, you can clearly tell “Norway” comes next in the album track listing.

Just imagine you took some crazy illegal substance and had a bad trip. This is probably what it would look like. The song is enjoyable too, and girls feeding each other chocolate covered strawberry’s definitely boosts up the imagery.. but by the end of watching this, you’ll probably just be feeling wierd. Crazy video though.
