I haven’t gotten around to listening to this album, but maybe one of these days I can sit an really take a listen. I been wanting to post something from One Life Stand for like a week now and I’m now just getting around to it. From first listen, it’s definitely more on the commercial side. I can see KiD CuDi remixing one of these songs. Or better worse… Wale. The album drops Feb 8th.

Game Rebellion – Blind

I never even heard of Game Rebellion until the homie Dallas Penn put me on a couple days ago. From the video, it looks like the mighty Mos Def is cosigning these dudes too. Seeing as how Blakroc is in full effect right now, let’s see if any more music is birthed out from this wave of genre collaboration. 2010 might be that year of sonic exploration where musical boundaries will be creatively pushed.

Come to find out though, this song goes hard. Mosh pit status. They kind of remind of me Rage Against The Machine. Sounds Like A Riot EP is out now.

Smashing Pumpkins – A Song For A Son

Are you ready for this one? The Smashing Pumpkins are set to release a series of 44 songs over the next couple months in the form of 11, 4 song EP’s through their website (WHOA!). This is the first song released from the forthcoming Teargarden by Kaleidyscope project, which from what Billy Corgan says, was written in an acoustic rate of 15 minutes. Take that John Mayer… Viva 90’s rock.

Song lifted from Spinner.

John Mayer – Edge Of Desire

This ninja is a beast on the guitar. “Edge Of Desire” was recorded in one take just recently — as liberated on his blog. I’m curious to see what else he cooks up with these acoustic sessions.

I’ve been thinking of a way to say thank you for making Battle Studies such a huge success out of the gate… I’ve also been thinking of a way to use tumblr as a means of posting some more substantial stuff… So here’s a very raw, live solo version of “Edge of Desire” I just recorded in my apartment as a way to show my gratitude to you all for extending my time in this amazing career you’ve helped me build.

I think if you were kind enough to spent the 13 bucks, you should get some free music for the next good while.

So here it is. A song about late night longing recorded at 3am. iPhone dinging in the background and all…(that’s how I knew the take was going to be worth sticking with, as the best takes always get interrupted.)

Thank you.

More to come…

-John Mayer

Truth be told, Battle Studies is a pretty good album. I overplayed the shit out of Continuum though so I might be a little biased towards that record as opposed to the new one.

Beach House – Silver Soul

I remember when the homie Timm put me on to this band about a year back. He sent me “Gila” off their Devotion album. Their whole sound was psychedelic and I couldn’t wait to hear more while the leaf burned slow. I was even more amazed after I watched them randomly perform it live in a basement.

Fast forward a whole year, where out-of-nowhere they dropped their new single “Norway” — I was instantly hooked right in. Fortunately for the fans, this is something to hold you over until Teen Dream drops. If you pay attention to the end, you can clearly tell “Norway” comes next in the album track listing.

Norah Jones – Chasing Pirates (Santigold & Snotty Remix)

Excuse me for not paying much attention to Norah Jones’ music, but i was too busy “Chasing Pavements” with Adele to pay attention to any pirates. Regardless, this Santigold remix compared to the original is like night and day. The way they distorted the vocals and slowed the tempo to make it darker was crazy.

Sidebar: Nor is SERIOUSLY pretty. I don’t even rock with girls who have short hair either.. but HELLO THERE NORAH. I got my captain hook claw & eye patch ready to sail with you on board the Santa Maria until death do us part.. ARGHH. You look like the typical, nice, sweet girl next door —err, my type.

Timbaland – Timothy, Where Have You Been (Feat. Jet)

Even with the success of tracks like One Republic “Apologize” — it’s always hilarious hearing Timbaland on these types of songs. Not to mention Timbo’s new album features more pop’ish acts like Miley Cyrus (WHAT?), Daughtry (YUGHK!), The Fray (UM?) and Katy Perry (OK!). One sandwich short from a Lady Gaga appearance and Jay-Z verse later, Shock Value II might just fall short of its predecessor. Tim still gets it in with the production but we can go without his raps on this. C’mon Timmy, Say Something.

Animal Collective – Graze

Seeing as how I was a fan of Merriweather Post Pavilion (ask someone else and they’ll tell you that shit is classic), it was good to hear Animal Collective had a small EP in the works. Fall Be Kind will be released on vinyl in December, but you know how the internet works.

On my Back 2 The Basics mixtape (Disc 2), there was a KiD CuDi track titled “Can I Be” we premiered. Although most didn’t realize, the sample that was used on the track came from LCD Soundsystem’s “Someone Great”. Yesterday, LCD Soundsystem released their first single from a 12″ vinyl they will be releasing November 7th. It will be released digitally on the 24th but you know what the business is around these parts…

I haven’t had much time to sit with this project aside from listening to the first single “Give Blood” but from the sounds of it, Kyp Malone (from TV On The Radio) aka Rain Machine, was exploring some eclectic fields with this album. It would be a hard listen if you’re not too into too much rock. The song below has him on the acoustic throwback feel for 10 minutes. Will your attention span let you handle such a long song?

The Twilight Saga: New Moon is supposed to be the biggest movie of the year and with the hype surrounding the film, it’s only right that they recruit some of the top alternative/rock bands for the soundtrack. If features everyone from Lykke Li, Bon Iver, Muse, The Killers and Hov’s new inspiration as well as Radiohead’s frontman. I suggest you induce yourself with some type of uncontrolled substance before listening because it will definitely take you for a trip.

EMBRYONIC TRAY

The Flaming Lips have been doing their thing since the late 80’s & after decades of success, it’s good to see them still continue the streak. Their double album titled Embryonic in October is just around the corner. They’ve actually kept the music pretty much under wraps for these days & times. If you know me, you know I rock with that psychedelia hard and this is no different. You remember their last leak right?..

Radiohead – These Are My Twisted Words

radiohead

Ever since In Rainbows dropped, we haven’t heard much from Radiohead besides a couple Thome Yorke solo tracks here and there. Word has it that this track will appear on a Wall Of Ice EP that is slated for release this Monday?.. with a theory (and cryptic message) based on this cartoon — that would contradict Thome Yorke’s previous statements that there would be NO new Radiohead material anytime soon. Funny part about it is that 2 Radiohead songs have already leaked this week, and 3 in the past month or so. I guess Tuesday will tell us, but judging on Radiohead’s creativity, I wouldn’t put it past them. The song itself is eerie and dope.
